20121214 Poinciana
upload image
"The poinciana is native to Madagascar, and in Brisbane the bright orange flowers herald the coming of summer. They also signal the start of the storm season. They can grow up to 10 metres, but mostly only reach between 3 to 5 metres. However, their spreading growth habit, which can be up to 10 metres, means the poinciana is not a tree for a small yard".

Panorama of the house next door
upload image
This is my first (published) attempt at using Autostitch - a fantastic piece of software which automatically stitches photos together providing there is sufficient overlap.

This is made up of three individual photos.

In fact this photo was meant to be part of the same panorama, but I failed to have sufficient overlap (and instead missed out a whole section) and so it didn't work.

Anyway this is the house next door to the daddy house, Millbeck Towers.

And if you want to see something really cool, check out this version of the photo (intended for 360º images so please excuse the break).

At the very least, check it out a bit larger.

If you'd like to see the rest of my Lake District photos, use this guest pass.

A crop of a panorama shot of Ryoji Ikeda's installation The Transfinite at the Park Avenue Armory. I knew I couldn't capture the experience with single frame photos, so I tried some hdrs, which didn't work at all, and finally tried essentially bludgeoning my panorama stitchers into doing it for me. The chopped up results are marvelous.

The photos are massively dissimilar to most of the existing photos of the piece, since they are composited out of many discrete moments of the installation, rather than a moment in time. The installation is massive, and difficult to comprehend, a multisensory experience of audio, video, and architecture.

For more information about the installation, please visit www.armoryonpark.org/index.php/programs_events/detail/ryo...

This image was made with Microsoft Photosynth, then cropped and colored in Camera+.

I have never tried doing a photo-a-day project before, but then again, I previously didn't have access to Instagram, and I've recently upgraded my iPhone and can now take considerably better phone photos.

So, here's the first daily image. I've got a few to transfer from my phone as it's the 5th and I just got the idea for this project last night, but I'll do my best to get a photo sent here daily.

Just opened my viola case for the first time in 3 years. Little bastard was still in tune.

EXPLORE January 21st, 2008 @ # 180

Yesterday I was in Piraeus, Mikrolimano to take pics of boats, people and the reflections of the sea under the afternoon light of this wonderful January sunlit day(soon to be uploaded) ... While I was walking among the tavernas and cafeterias....with the corner of my eye I saw what I consider... "THE THEME"!

I would love to know the story behind that picture... it would make a great beginning for a film...

This pic is uploaded in response to critiques from the "Nikon Photo Critique" pool, of the previous pic in my photostream, and combines the suggestions to crop out the parked cars, and to convert to black and white/sepia toned.

yes, this was taken on the street before I tasted the café.

first uploaded June 2006, taken while experimenting
(Almost 7000 viewed it, 45 fav and 35 comments, I never dreamed while playing with point shoot exposition, outside a cafe, across Saint Lazar station, I would get so much interst with it!)

This is not an HDR. I haven't uploaded a normal photo to Flickr in a long time so I thought I would do that again.

I love the depth of field in this photo, and how the backgroud is so out of focus.

Daily App Experiment #93: "Scarving Artist

Daily App Experiment #93: "Scarving Artist" - Today's appsperiment was created to promote my friend Meredith's (aka @mermalady) "Scarf-A-Day" art show in SF, where she will be showing the 31 scarves she created throughout January. This photo was taken during one our many iPhone photo shoots we did around that time. The image was altered using various apps like #decim8 #camera+ #glitchbeam #toonpaint etc. Then I used #Juxtaposer to overlay Mer-Mer back on top of the glitched out picture. Mer is a having a reception tonight at Mission Comics And Art at 7pm.
