X&Y Album Art Generator

Brendan made this X&Y Album Art Generator and asked me to host it on my site. Now this thing is being mentioned all over the Internet, and I even found a couple of its products on Flickr.

Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle

This is an obsession i have since ever: redesigning the way i wanted the covers of my favourite records. This series will be no more than that, my music revisited in just an aesthetic exercise combining images and typography.
All the photographies are mine.

blinking lights, has a good home

two albums that i've been meaning to purchase for some time, but never got around to.

i've always liked eels, and have all of the records. electro-shock blues is among my favourite albums.

final fantasy is really something special to me these days. i think this entire album is brilliant, but there is one lyric from it that continually haunts me:

Adventure.exe

"Hey yo yo yo yo yo
I need an empire to overthrow
You make me wish for a more dangerous life
So I can show you 'bout self sacrifice

Say yes yes yes yes yes
Say no no no to a natural death
I'd rather give my life to god as man
Than have to line up at the bank again

Oh you you you you you
If you only knew the lengths I'd go to
You pack away all your ballpoint pens
and take a plane back to the Phillipines"

here are some interesting thoughts on that song from the songwriter.

My First Photo Album

Please feel free to flickr mail me if you're interested in knowing where you can get yourself a book like this.

Jordan purchased the supplies and I made this photo album as a wedding gift for two of his friends. The basic materials were a 14x17 sketchbook with 15 sheets of bristol paper, some ribbon, two sheets of 18x18 blue paper, two spools of embroidery floss and some fun embellishments.

Album cover game

I usually don't take part in flickr games (mostly out of laziness, I enjoy watching everyone's), but this one I found very interesting. Plus, I got really cool results from the randomisation

*******
These are the rules:
1 - Click here: www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The title of the first item that you happen random is the name of your band.

2 - Click here: www.quotationspage.com/ (and then on "Random Quotes" on the left)
The last four or five words of the quote that appears there will be the album title.

3 - Click here: www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what: that is the cover of your disc.

4 - In Photoshop, create the cover of your debut disc

*******

Band name : Four Mile Circle
Album name: Expression of my personality

Cover art by fotonstudio, all right reserved, no copyright infringement intended! (his whole photostream would make awsome album covers btw)

Bryan O'Quinn Red Carpet event (Photo)

Smooth Crooner Bryan O’Quinn showed off his sense of style on the red carpet the Monique’s syndicated radio show on location February 27, 2009. O’Quinn is reportedly hard at work on his next album and has finished three new songs. "He has wanted to do this compilation as a personal thank you to his core fan base who has supported his music since the New Jacks Swing era," a source to the singer says of the new tracks.

Hook Edwardian family album #4

This is the fourth full page scan from the Hook family album. It came to me with many pages loose, and it has proved imposssible to reconstruct the correct page order, so I shall just number them for convenience in the order I scan them, rather than meaning this to signify anything. That said, I can say that #3 and #4 were on reverse sides of the same sheet.

For individual images see the next two photos in my photostream.

Provide the next Satchel Blue album cover

How would you like to provide the design or photograph for the next Satchel Blue album cover?

Our fifth album, Another Fine Day, is due for release in February and we'd like your ideas for the front cover.

There's no prize as such, but if you've got the perfect cover then we'll credit you in the album sleeve and your work will be available via iTunes for all to see. (Oh, and you'll get a free copy of the album of course).

The back cover (in the non-iTunes, old skool CD packaging world) might look something like this. Then again, it might not.

Our last album, February, is available to download from iTunes.

Photographs/designs to me by the end of January please.

Get in touch via Twitter, Flickr or Facebook.

Album Page 1

This is a page from an old album that belonged to my Aunt Lois. One of many that I have scanned. I think at the time these were taken she and my mom were living either in Kansas or Oklahoma. In the top left photo, my mom is second from the left. The others are her siblings. I'm not sure about the other photos. The car looks like a Ford Model T to me.
For the StorySets group, the album is broken out into separate photos in the following set: www.flickr.com/photos/gem66/sets/72057594096349734/

Old French stamp collection

I don't suppose children collect stamps these days, but when I was a kid, most people had an album.

I wasn't obsessive, but I was quite interested for a while, and got a really manky tatty old album at a jumble sale for a few pence when I was about 10. It had about 300 old stamps in, so my collection had a lot of older stuff in it than most kids in the 80s. I had quite a lot of more modern colourful stamps too, but I was quite drawn to these stamps from another era.

I haven't looked at them in donkeys' years. I got them down now because I was looking for an interesting old stamp to put in a matchbox for a matchbox-stuffing challenge.

My first album

Day 111

First, I don't play the guitar, K does, but I thought it would make a pretty photo and hey, one can dream :)

Secondly thanks for your patience - this is version 2. I uploaded the first so that I completed the challenge on time (before everybody has moved on to the next one). But wanted to come back and give this a more finished look.

For Gooner-licious' fabulously luscious "I wanna be famous" + album cover + naked challenge (sorry couldn't make the collab happen).

Really enjoyed this photo-challenge and it sure produced some cracking results from the FGR team - I'm off to throw some love at y'all right now.

THANK YOU!

Thrifted Albums

I got lucky and was able to pick up a few albums I had my eye on over at the store by my workplace. Got a couple Gleason albums: "Music to Change Her Mind" and "Velvet Brass". The bonus find was "My Reverie" by The Three Suns. Sure made working on the weekend much easier..

: )

Not a bad day.

(Also found a book on "Made in Japan" ceramics with lots of great photos and information. Good add to the Pottery Library of mine.)

Röyksopp – Junior Album Redesign

A redesign for Röyksopp's latest album, Junior. An electronic band, Röyksopp describes their latest release as "youthful and energetic," an introspection on the modern relationship between nature and machine. Depicted to represent this are a girl (natural, left) and a robot (mechanical, right), and their struggling relationship. The overall color choice, graphic and typographic style is based on 80s music, which the album draws lots of similarities with. All elements within this composition are completely from scratch – of interest, I acquired many of the textures from stains in my oven and over-exposure-gone-wrong photos (further emphasizing the imperfect nature of humanity).

WW1 era snapshot album at Brighton - page 10

I had glanced through this album before - it's about 18 pages of small snapshots dating from the 1910s and seemingly all taken in Brighton - but is was only on a second viewing that the middle image just leapt out at me. Such a tender moment, so beautifully captured.

There are no names identified anywhere in the album, but inside the front cover there's a note from the censor which appears to read "Mrs M Ailion, 12A New Steine Mansions, St James St, Bton". It then says approved and passed and the date looks to be 31 August 1916.
