This is an obsession i have since ever: redesigning the way i wanted the covers of my favourite records. This series will be no more than that, my music revisited in just an aesthetic exercise combining images and typography.

How to change the rediculous flat look of the dock (which is not even as ugly as the 3d version).

1. Copy the Dock.app from /System/Library/Core Services/Dock.app to your Desktop (make a backup of this file!)
2. Open Terminal to get rid of 3d glass look. "defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES"
3. killall Dock (Dock will reboot auto with 2d look)
4. Show Package Contents of Dock.app on your Desktop and replace the files bottom1 - bottom5.png to eliminate rediculous border.
5. Open the new Dock.app from your Desktop (this is important so that you can replace the one in your System folder)
6. killall Dock (Dock will not reboot because of step 5 - weird)
7. Copy the new Dock.app to your /System/Library/Core Services/ folder. Authenticate.
8. Open Dock.app and you should see your new custom dock.

Further customizations:
To get rid of the trasparent menu bar at the top, simply fill a 20 pixels high box on top of a background image which is the exact same res as your desktop. A gradient of #f2f2f2 > #e8e8e8 seems to work pretty well. You can also just simply duplicate the look of Tigers menu bar.
Rounded corners are added using Displaperture www.manytricks.com/displaperture/ ( link via www.DaringFireball.net )

Update - Video Art now loaded here:
www.flickr.com/photos/mimitalks/6076191923/in/photostream/
I started to have her hold a smaller version of a compilation of the Video Art stills I've loaded on my photostream in this set, then decided to change that up. So while the board background might be familiar at one point to my faithful few, how you get there and what is on it are all new creations.
The photo is our daughter at about 8 years old, starting with an original and enhanced a bit to create a little drama. She is originally holding a piece of paper with a Bible Verse on it (writing not real clear in the original photo and whited out in subsequent ones.
And at the end of my Video Art, this colorful board is gracefully swirled and twirled (one of my favorite capabilities of Paint Shop Pro 6).

Board background is included in this Video Art (in Explore) called "Aim for the Stars"
Everything else was created yesterday, and uploading today. It takes awhile for my networked computer to upload over 300 mgs. of an .AVI file.

Henry Wharton at the Hoppings in Newcastle.1940's

The Hoppings is a popular fair in the North East of England, held in the last full week of June every year on Newcastle's Town Moor, spanning around 40 acres of land.

The Hoppings started out as a Temperance Festival in 1882, when Newcastle Temperance organisations decided to revive the annual gatherings that they had previously held, but included different festivities to coincide, to counter-attract the 'Summer Race Meeting' at Gosforth Park, which was seen as a source of drunkenness.

It proved to be a great success and the fair is still being enjoyed to this very day.

ezimba is a web site that can apply different imaging effects.
www.ezimba.com/index.html

I used one picture for all the effects just for consistency for comparison. The title for each photo consists of the category of the effect and the name of the effect. Some effects would be better used on a different image. There are some effects also that appear to do the same thing in different effect categories.

Ezimba also has a Facebook app, Google Android app, and a free iPhone app. Please note that the free iPhone app puts a small logo on the edited image. You can buy the paid ezimba app and not have the logo.

Master or Slave? (Flash Question)

Some cool flash photo images:

Master or Slave? (Flash Question)
flash photo
I took a flash photography class last night with Elaine, and it illuminated one thing (get it? Illuminated? Ha!) - I need a real flash. Especially for indoor photos. I've known this for awhile; it was actually part of why I wanted to take the Photo II class I was originally going to take this semester. I wanted to learn how to properly use a flash. Now I know a lot more than I did yesterday about using one, about operating my camera in manual mode, about the histogram, about so much more than just using a flash.

Yeah, it was a good class.

So which one should I get? The Canon Speedlite 580EX which can be a master? Or the Canon Speedlite 430EX which can only be a slave?

Help.

This is an xray of my lungs I recently had to do - luckily it turned out to be fine. Because we live in the 21st century, the doctors don't deal with actual prints anymore but with CDs, which was the perfect chance for me to get the pictures digital right away. So there was no way around using them for something... an experiment I don't know I feel comfortable with.

Setup: Flash to the left shot through umbrella, flash on the right through a self-made snoot. Textures from lostandtaken.com/

The temples sprawl all around Cambodia. This is quite the holy spot for Buddhists who travel here from locations all around the world. You can tell what sect they are from based on their robes. I was able to sit with one for a few hours and we watched dozens of monks walk by and he could tell me exactly where each one was from based on the slight color variation in their robes and the way it was folded.

Also, if you all want to see some of the behind-the-scenes activity here and see the book-cover selection process for "A World in HDR", visit the Stuck In Customs Facebook Fan Page, where we have a discussion forum. Once you are in there, just click on "Discussions", and you can see the four images we were considering for the cover. Feel free to give your opinions in there... I put one of the other favorites here below! :)

That FB Fan Page is also a good place to have "General Discussions". The only bad thing about the blog is that each discussion is tied to a single post. That's great, and people always seem to have interesting ideas and experiences to share. But I wanted you to know that you are more than welcome to start up any discussion you wish inside the FB Fan Page Discussions area...
