A few nice image website images I found:

Jupiter & Io, processing in RegiStax

One of my Jupiter images was used in the BBC's Astrophotography How-To guide which can be downloaded from the Stargazing Live website at www.bbc.co.uk/tv/features/stargazing/star-guides.shtml

Here's another more recent example showing what can achieved using a relatively small telescope. From left to right:

1) Single unprocessed frame (one of nearly 700 that were taken). Two cloud belts, the Great Red Spot and the Galilean moon Io (barely) are visible, but not much else.
2) Stacked image in RegiStax, no additional processing. The noise has been averaged out and the image is ready for sharpening.
3) Same image after wavelet sharpening.
4) Final image after contrast enhancement and colour-balancing in Photoshop (using Levels, Curves, and Channel Mixer layer adjustments). Io has been brightened relative to Jupiter to make it stand out a bit more.

Equipment used: Canon 40D DSLR, Vixen SP-102 achromatic refractor, and a Tele Vue 2.5x Powermate.

RegiStax can be downloaded free from www.astronomie.be/registax/
