"Mater Matrix Mother and Medium" -- the performance
photo sites
For more info, check out the blog matermatrixmother.wordpress.com

”Mater Matrix Mother and Medium” is process-based temporary public art project created by installation artist Mandy Greer. It combines community action, site-embedded installation and a performance produced in collaboration between myself, dancer Zoe Scofield and composer Morgan Henderson, Summer 2009 at Camp Long in Seattle, Wa.

On July 16, 2009, the culmination of the "Mater Matrix Mother and Medium " project was a hushed reflection on the subtle dynamics of a forest embedded in the urban environment, as organic as it is artificial. All three artists -- myself, Zoe and Morgan -- responded in our own way to the quirky overgrown tranquility of Camp Long's little pond. Our intent was to invite the audience to sit for a short time in quiet observation of the rhythms of this unusual site, heightening their focus through sound, movement, breath and site-responsive installation.

Commissioned by the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs using the Seattle Public Utilities 1% for Art Funds, as a way to celebrate and interpret the splendor of Seattle’s urban creeks and encourage community involvement in the stewardship of our essential watersheds.

mandygreer.wordpress.com

This project began with the creation of a 200+ foot fiber river, created in part through a series of over 30 community events all over Seattle during the spring of 2009. I taught anyone willing to learn how to crochet, with some contributing a few minutes of chain stitch and others sticking with me for a few hours.
I then took the fiber "pools" into the forest of Camp Long, and urban park in Seattle, and spent the next six weeks on a ladder crocheting and integrating the river into the trees.

The River is made up of thousands upon thousands of tiny moments and movements of individual citizens, integrated and interwoven into the natural environment. With the performance, held on July 16, 2009, the River enveloped Zoe Scofield in an exploration of how we ourselves are both literal and metaphoric manifestations of the living essence of water. Our experience of water is both one of intimacy and also of civic structure.

This artwork is a unique blend of community engagement and personal inquiry, of site-embedded installation and performance. It embodies the ancient human practice of acknowledging our own physicality rooted in the cycles of water and how this forms the very foundation of human community. Water, both mundane and miraculous, mirrors the everyday meeting of strangers and the tiny moments that begin to bond us together.

The "Mater Matrix Mother and Medium" installation will be traveling to the Agnes Scott College campus on Oct. 1, 2009

Tim Stall presents ALM: Empowering Teams with Automation and Build Servers

ALM tooling: Empowering teams with build servers and metrics

Everyone knows that automated builds are a good thing, but many teams don't leverage them fully because it's hard to get started. Tim will go over practical techniques and concepts for automating builds with TFS and MSbuild. Once you have an automated build, there are dozens of steps you can hook into it, such as metrics. Tim will walk through several core metrics, including line count, code churn, duplication, complexity, and test code coverage, as well as the concepts and pitfalls for adopting these within a team.

1954 Borgward Isabella Coupe (21)
picture sizes
The Borgward Isabella is a medium sized two door saloon that was manufactured by the Bremen based auto-manufacturer Carl F. W. Borgward GmbH between 1954 and 1962. Initially the car was badged, like its predecessor, as the Hansa 1500, but within the company it was known from the beginning by the code name, Isabella (after Carl Borgward's wife), and cars produced after 1957 bore the ‘Isabella’ name, inscribed eye catchingly within the rhombus at the centre of the front grill: in retrospect the car produced from 1954 is known as the Isabella to differentiate it from the (first) Hansa 1500/1800 which the company produced between 1949 and 1954.

Despite its aspirational positioning in the marketplace, the Isabella had a smaller engine (and was marginally shorter) than its immediate predecessor. Late in 1952 the firm had launched their six cylinder Hansa 2400 model. The larger car never found many buyers; but in 1954 it made commercial sense to keep the two models from competing too directly with one another.

Initial sales volumes were not maintained. Responding to a sales decline of almost a third between 1955 and 1956, Carl Borgward decided to produce a more beautiful Isabella with a shortened roof line. The Borgward Isabella Coupé was developed, and the four hand built prototypes were well received by the press. Borgward gave one of these prototypes to his wife, Elizabeth, who would continue to drive it into the 1980s. Commercial production of the coupé, powered by the more powerful TS version of the engine first seen in the cabriolet, commenced in January 1957. The coupe appears to have achieved it’s marketing objective of further distancing the Isabella’s image from similarly sized competitors from Opel and Ford.

After the success of the MA show at the Mall Galleries in February 2010, the London College of Fashion asked us to create an installation for the BA graduate show. We wanted to create coherency between the two shows, both through the materials used and their interactive functionality, but we also wanted to push our original idea further. The Rootstein Hopkins space at the LCF is a much larger environment to fill than the Mall Galleries and also we had to deal with a larger number of students. Using a total of 150 digital picture frames, 500 steel plates and six 42" touchscreens, we created an open horseshoe shaped hanging wall with a separate hanging 'chandelier' in the centre.
