flickr family

to say that my [our] flickr family is of great importance to me is something of an understatement.

doubtless the same statement could well be made by tens of thousands of other flickr account holders.

over the last year or so I have seen my own flickr family [both close and extended] grow.

grow in terms of the connections between one person and another into something beyond anything I had imagined possible when i began here on flickr.

to watch these these connections evolve has been, quite simply, astonishing.

evolution seems a fitting word to describe what has taken place.

from sharing photographs and art, comments and compliments, we have moved into a new evolutionary phase wherein it is not only photographs and comments we share, but flickr mail, parcels, gifts, video messages and voice messages.

and of course, the apex of any evolving flickr relationship, meeting a valued contact in the real world.

as many of you will know, I recently had the very great pleasure of meeting Jules:

when I step back and consider this recent meeting it leaves me aghast.

a year and a half ago I did not know Julian existed.

nor, without flickr, would I have been able to discover any evidence of Julian's existence.

these developing and evolving connections have, without doubt, been a most incredible thing to contemplate.

for hundreds of thousands of people [probably far more], flickr has become an integral part of their everyday lives.

like family.

many people may well maintain that their flickr contacts 'are' their family.

in an uncanny way, flickr reflects the behaviours of any family.

in the flickr family to which I happily belong, we have seen almost every situation that real world families encounter:

friendship.
love.
illness.
birth.
the coming together of people.
the breaking apart of people.
elation.
depression.
agreement.
disagreement.
understanding.
misunderstanding .
much laughter.
many tears.
despair.
courage.
hope.

i am intensely glad to be a small part of this communal journey.

who can foresee what incredible things may take place over the years to come.

i give my thanks, and offer my love, to all those in my [in our] flickr family.

this has been an amazing journey.

and of course...

it has only just begun.

thank you all.
