The Opel Ascona is a mid-sized car produced by Opel. It had three generations produced from 1970 to 1988. In motorsport, the Ascona 400 rally car driven by Walter Röhrl won the World Rally Championship drivers' title in the 1982 season.
The Ascona took its name from the lakeside resort of that name in Ticino, Switzerland, and already in the 1950s a special edition of the Opel Rekord P1 was sold as an Opel Ascona in Switzerland, where the name was again used in 1968 for a locally adapted version of the Opel Kadett B into which the manufacturers had persuaded a 1.7-litre engine borrowed from the larger Rekord model of the time.[1] The Opel Ascona A launched in 1970 and sold across Europe was, however, the first mainstream Opel model to carry the name.
The Ascona was introduced in September 1970 and ended production in August 1988, to be replaced by the Opel Vectra A.

The BMW 327 is a medium sized touring coupé produced by the Bavarian firm between 1937 and 1941, and again produced after 1945. It sat on a shortened version of the BMW 326 chassis.
The first 327, launched in 1937, was a cabriolet. In 1938, this was joined by a fixed head coupé version. The car was shorter and lower than its sedan counterpart, but shared the famous BMW grill and a streamlined form representative of the more progressive designs of the 1930s.

Uploaded a cropped version of this photo at 9.05 this morning, and delighted to say that MKSeery identified it very quickly as the back of the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. However we needed some help on the date - and many arguments centred around the tennis courts.
Niall McAuley provided a gorgeous link to the OSI Historic 25" maps showing the gardens and tennis court that appear in this photograph.
FXRDublin gave 1888-1913 as the date for the OSI 25" historic map showing the tennis court, while see below for Niall McAuley's new "patent map dating algorithm" that narrowed the date (still tentatively) to 1907.

Thermal Spring Waterfall

Uploading the final batch of pictures from my vacation to the Azores in March 2011. You can see the whole collection, including a few bonus shots, here.
On our final day of vacation, we drove over the third major volcano on São Miguel. It is quite the experience: the mountain was completely fogged in, so for the drive up we had basically zero visibility going up the twisty mountain road. We stopped to admire the Lagoa do Fogo (picture in comments) as the fog was lifting, and then headed down the other side to the north coast of the island. On the way to the tea plantations on the north side of the island, we stopped at this hot spring / waterfall combination. It was quite striking how lush and green this particular patch of the island was, fed a by a warm mineral spring. The pool (and the waterfall) is a thermal spring and is supposed to be quite nice to swim in.

These were all taken with the video cam in my computer so the resolution isn't that great but they're pretty sharp. Some with my absolute favorite hat, and some with no hat.

The Volvo Amazon is a mid-size car manufactured by Volvo Cars from 1956 to 1970, and introduced in the USA, as the 122S at the New York International Auto Show in April 1959.
The Amazon shared both the wheelbase from its predecessor, the PV, as well as its tall posture and high H-point seating — while offering three model configurations: 2-door sedan, 4-door sedan and wagon. In 1959 Volvo provided front seat belts as standard equipment on all the cars, including the export models, becoming the world's first manufacturer to take this step — later becoming the first car featuring three-point seat belts.
When introduced, the car was called the Amason (with an 's'), which derives from the fierce female warriors of Greek mythology, the Amazons. Kreidler, German manufacturer of motorcycles had already registered the name, and the two companies agreed Volvo could only use the name domestically (i.e., within Sweden), modifying the spelling to Amazon. Subsequently, Volvo began its tri-digit nomenclature and the line became known as the 120 Series.

The Lancia Flavia is a medium-sized luxury saloon, launched with a 1500 cc engine at the 1960 Turin Motor Show by Lancia and introduced in major European markets during the next twelve months. Coupe and cabriolet versions developed by Pininfarina quickly followed, together with one or two low volume 'specials' including an eye-catching Zagato coupe. Performance improved over the next ten years as the engine size increased, progressively, to 2000 cc. The car remained in production until 1970 when it was updated and renamed as the Lancia 2000.

I got lucky and was able to pick up a few albums I had my eye on over at the store by my workplace. Got a couple Gleason albums: "Music to Change Her Mind" and "Velvet Brass". The bonus find was "My Reverie" by The Three Suns. Sure made working on the weekend much easier..

Röyksopp – Junior Album Redesign

A redesign for Röyksopp's latest album, Junior. An electronic band, Röyksopp describes their latest release as "youthful and energetic," an introspection on the modern relationship between nature and machine. Depicted to represent this are a girl (natural, left) and a robot (mechanical, right), and their struggling relationship. The overall color choice, graphic and typographic style is based on 80s music, which the album draws lots of similarities with. All elements within this composition are completely from scratch – of interest, I acquired many of the textures from stains in my oven and over-exposure-gone-wrong photos (further emphasizing the imperfect nature of humanity).
WW1 era snapshot album at Brighton - page 10

I had glanced through this album before - it's about 18 pages of small snapshots dating from the 1910s and seemingly all taken in Brighton - but is was only on a second viewing that the middle image just leapt out at me. Such a tender moment, so beautifully captured.
There are no names identified anywhere in the album, but inside the front cover there's a note from the censor which appears to read "Mrs M Ailion, 12A New Steine Mansions, St James St, Bton". It then says approved and passed and the date looks to be 31 August 1916.
